The Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota (ADAND) is pleased to announce a unique and expanded partnership with the Bank of North Dakota (BND) designed to increase customer service and encourage college savings. College SAVE, a state program which helps families save for college tax-free, will be the focus of a partnership promotion in September. In recognition of national College Savings Month, BND will offer a $50 College SAVE contribution to anyone who purchases a new OR used vehicle during the month of September from an ADAND dealer member involved in the partnership. Dealers may choose to enhance this amount with their own gift to a child’s account. Promotional materials are available online to share with your customers. On May 8, by a bipartisan vote of 234-175, the U.S. House approved S.J.Res. 57, a joint resolution to rescind the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) flawed auto finance rule. The CFPB’s auto finance rule attempted to eliminate a dealer’s ability to discount auto credit. This rule was issued in 2013 as “guidance” without any prior notice or public comment, and was based on flawed data and a flawed methodology. The legislation now goes to President Trump, who is expected to sign S.J.Res. 57 into law. CLICK HERE to read more.

Thank you, Congressman Cramer!

The Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota (ADAND) acknowledges and thanks Congressman Kevin Cramer for his vote in favor of rescinding the CFPB’s flawed guidance. (See story above.) Dan Wilson, ADAND National Director, Fargo, applauded Congressman Cramer’s steadfast support, which he says will save consumers money on their auto loans. “Keeping discounts for auto loans in the showroom helps consumers get a better interest rate than they often can get on their own,” said Wilson. "This helps North Dakotans afford the car or truck they need.”

Thank you, Senator Hoeven!

The U.S. Senate approved S.J.Res. 57 on April 18 by a bipartisan vote of 51-47. (See top story.) ADAND thanks Senator John Hoeven for his vote in favor of this important resolution and for co-sponsoring the legislation. Both Congressman Cramer and Senator Hoeven fought to protect North Dakota consumers by keeping the auto credit market competitive. The CFPB’s guidance would have raised the cost of vehicle financing and likely pushed marginally creditworthy consumers out of the auto credit market altogether.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act brings changes for small businesses in 2018 and beyond. To help business owners understand new rules and limitations for depreciation and expensing under the new law, the IRS recently released a “Fact Sheet” (Fact Sheet 2018-9), which contains guidance regarding these new rules. Dealers should consult this guidance and work with their tax or legal professional to determine its applicability to your operations. CLICK HERE to view the Fact Sheet. (Source: IRS)
